Luméi is a mobile emotional-intelligence companion app. Users chat with an AI that listens first — no therapy-speak, no fake empathy, no long lectures. Responses are short, human, and context-aware. When helpful, Luméi routes the user to a specialized companion without breaking conversation flow.

Background
Most mental wellness apps feel clinical or robotic. Luméi was designed to feel like a real late-night conversation with someone who actually listens. The app features a listener-first AI core, a companion routing system (Elias for grounding, Amara for clarity, Leo for courage, Selena for lightness), daily emotional check-ins, weekly AI-generated reflection summaries, voice input, and multi-language support — all wrapped in a minimal, emotionally-optimized UI.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was making AI responses feel genuinely human — short, contextual, and never preachy. The companion routing system needed to seamlessly switch personas while preserving full conversation context. We also built an emotionally-driven onboarding flow that mirrors user problems before presenting solutions, plus real-time streaming chat with native mobile feel and voice-to-text transcription.
Outcome
Luméi launched with a listener-first AI chat, four specialized companions, daily mood check-ins, weekly reflection cards, voice input, companion customization, and multi-language support. The emotionally-optimized onboarding increased activation rates significantly, and the streaming chat UX delivers fast, natural conversations that feel genuinely human.
